Pompadour

The pompadour is the classic men's cut with short sides and very long top, swept up and back into a high, voluminous front. Elvis Presley wore the definitive 1950s rockabilly version; David Beckham brought a modern variant into the 2010s. The cut needs significant length on top — at least 10 cm — to comb up and back into the pompadour shape.

It flatters oval, heart, and diamond faces — the height at the front balances these shapes by adding visual length. Straight hair holds the styling best; wavy and curly hair can wear modified pompadour variants but the classic shape needs straight (or straightened) hair. The cut reads either retro-rockabilly or modern-fashion depending on styling.

High daily maintenance — strong-hold pomade combed through the top, swept up and back. Eight to twelve minutes most mornings. Re-cut every four weeks to keep the sides short relative to the long top. The pompadour has been continuously worn across men's styling since the 1950s rockabilly era, with major revivals through the 1980s, late 2000s 'rockabilly hipster' moment, and the 2010s 'David Beckham era.' Ask for 'short sides and very long top — at least 10 cm — needed to comb up and back into the pompadour shape.' Generic 'short with long top' won't produce the needed length.
