Micro Bob

The micro bob is the very short, above-jaw, blunt bob — typically just below the earlobe, sometimes higher. Significantly shorter than a classic bob, with no layers anywhere. The cut went viral in 2023 (Sydney Sweeney, Jodie Comer in Killing Eve) as a more committed alternative to the standard chin-length bob.

It flatters oval and heart faces — bone structure has to carry the cut because there's almost no hair to distract from the face. Straight hair shows the line cleanest; wavy hair can wear it but needs more styling to keep the line clean. The micro bob is the bob to ask for when you want maximum impact in a single cut.

Low daily maintenance — air-dry with a light cream, or quick smoothing blowout. The short length means daily styling is under five minutes. Trim every five weeks; the cut goes from sharp to scruffy faster than longer bobs. The micro bob's modern era is 2022-2024, but the underlying cut traces to the original 1920s flapper bob and the punk-era short bobs of the 1970s. Specify 'above-jaw, blunt, no longer than the ear lobe' — this is shorter than a classic bob and you have to say so to get it.
