Long Curly Layers

Long curly layers are the cut specifically designed for natural curl patterns — long lengths with internal layers that move with the curl spiral rather than against it. The critical thing is they must be cut DRY on natural curl, never wet. Wet curl shrinks roughly 30% as it dries, so wet-cut layers end up shorter than intended and often disrupt the curl pattern.

They flatter oval and heart faces — the framing and weight at the lengths balance these shapes, and the natural curl adds the visual volume curly textures already have. Type 3 (curls) and Type 4 (coily) hair both wear them; the layering technique adapts to the curl pattern.

Medium maintenance — wash, condition with a thick leave-in, scrunch dry without touching during the dry phase. Refresh between washes with curl cream and water. Trim every twelve weeks at most — curls retain length when you DON'T over-trim. The cut isn't widely understood outside curl-trained salons, which is why most long-curl-hair owners have at some point gotten a wet cut and watched their style disappear. Ask specifically for a 'dry cut, curl by curl' — generic 'long layers' on curls is a recipe for disappointment.
